Shou Puerh
After our Sheng Puerh club in May, we're now introducing Shou/Ripe Puerh 熟普洱 (Shú Pǔ‘ěr) for the first time, a kind of dark tea from Yunnan province that's post-fermented. Facing the market‘s large demand for fermented teas, the puerh Wo Dui 渥堆 process was invented between 1973 and 1975 to produce Shou Puerh by accelerating the natural but time-consuming aging process that could have taken Sheng puerh decades. Wo Dui literally means wet piling, and it involves spraying water on piles of puerh tea leaves to catalyze microbial fermentation, during which the piles are turned periodically and the temperature and humidity are strictly controlled. The entire process can take between 40 to 60 days. Shou Puerh has dark brown dry leaves and reddish-brown liquor color. It's known for being mellow, sweet, smooth, and deep, as well as having some potential health benefits. Hope you enjoy tasting these teas and join our weekly virtual tasting events. Finally, be sure to share our tea club with your friends or on social media #myteapal #myteapalclub.
