Description
Bai Mu Dan (白牡丹, lit. White Peony) is made solely of silvery buds and tender young leaves (typically one to two leaves). There are three categories of Bai Mu Dan: Da Bai, Xiao Bai, and Shuixian Bai. This particular tea belongs to the Da Bai category as it is produced from the Fuding Da Bai cultivar. Bai Mu Dan is popular among white drinkers, since its taste is slightly stronger and more floral than Silver Needle, yet still remaining balanced, sweet, and refreshing. This tea was compressed into cakes (100 grams each) and aged for 3 years. Over time, it has developed to be more mellow and sweet. Diantou village is known as the No.1 village for Chinese white tea, despite having a relatively lower elevation compared to other white tea core producing regions in Fuding. It is also the origin place of the Fuding Da Bai cultivar and the center of white tea trade and exchange.
