Description
This tea was produced by following the traditional Dian Hong processing technique: withering, rolling, oxidation, and baking dry. The picking standard is one bud and two leaves, and the buds appear golden among the dry leaves. Menghai county started producing Dian Hong in 1940, one year after Fengqing county succeeded in making black tea using Yunnan’s big leaf tea varietal. Menghai is very well-known for its puerh production, and since then, it also became one of the most important regions producing Dian Hong. Fo Xiang is a cultivar bred by Yunnan Province Academy of Agricultural Sciences Institute of Tea, which was founded in 1938 and became an important and authoritative tea cultivar research institute in the province and nation. This tea comes from an organic tea garden maintained by the institute. Fo Xiang directly translates to Buddha Fragrance, but it’s not the literal meaning for fragrance of buddha, because the Fo part comes from Menghai’s old name Fo Hai. This cultivar is a crossbreed between Yunnan’s big leaf cultivar and Fujian’s small leaf cultivar, and it's recognized as an excellent cultivar on the provincial level.
