Description
古丈毛尖 Guzhang Maojian is a type of green tea from Guzhang County, located in the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Hunan province, China. It is classified as one of China's renowned teas, having been awarded as China’s top ten teas in 1982. This tea is harvested before the Qingming solar term using the one bud and one leaf picking standard. The processing of Guzhang Maojian follows eight steps, including withering, fixation, initial rolling, secondary fixation, secondary rolling, tertiary fixation, shaping, and drying. Guzhang Maojian stands out with its straight and slender tea leaves, glossy and lustrous appearance, and prominent presence of young buds. Its taste is sweet, refreshing, and mellow, with a hint of umami flavor. Guzhang County has a rich history of tea production. Guzhang's tea heritage stretches back nearly two millennia. The earliest written records concerning tea in the region date back to the Eastern Han (25–220 CE) dynasty. During the Tang dynasty, tea from Guzhang, then part of Xizhou, was even presented as a tribute to the imperial court. The county's climate is characterized by a subtropical mountainous monsoon climate with distinct seasons, and its rich natural soil and abundant rainfall in the region provide an ideal environment for tea cultivation.
