Description
Mei Tan Mao Feng (湄潭毛峰) comes from the misty, high-altitude tea gardens of Meitan County, Zunyi, in Guizhou Province, China. This premium Mao Feng style green tea is harvested in late March, before the Qingming solar term, adhering to a picking standard of one bud paired with one or two leaves. The region's elevation of around 1150 meters contributes to the unique climate that nourishes the tea, enhancing its quality and flavor profile. Meitan, with a rich history dating back to the Ming dynasty, stands as a cornerstone of Chinese tea culture and is recognized as Guizhou’s largest tea-producing area. Historical records from the Qing dynasty acclaim Meitan's teas as imperial tributes, underscoring their esteemed quality. The fertile soil and favorable climate of the county are ideal for cultivating the Mei Tan Tai Cha cultivar, which is known for its exceptional leaves and distinctive taste. In the 1940s, Meitan was chosen as the site for a central experimental tea factory due to its prime conditions for tea cultivation. This historical decision was reinforced by the cooperation between the factory and Zhejiang University, leading to innovative tea processing techniques that melded Meitan's traditional methods with those of Long Jing tea, revolutionizing the local tea industry. Although Meitan County is famously known for producing Mei Tan Cui Ya, characterized by its flat and even leaves with a delicate taste, our selection of Mei Tan Mao Feng offers a robust alternative. This Mao Feng style tea boasts a stronger flavor and a slightly nutty aroma, setting it apart from Mei Tan Cui Ya.
