Description
Daheishan (Big Black Mountain) is a common mountain name, but this is the one belonging to the Bada Ancient tea mountain, where many gushu trees grow wildly for hundreds of years. When tea trees sprout for the first time in the harvest cycle, there will be soft outer layers protecting new buds’ growth, and yabao is picked during this stage. Since Menghai is in the tropical area, tea trees sprout as early as late December. Though harvested in the winter, this is the first pick of the year. Many Camellias plants produce yabao, and those produced by C. crassicolumna and C. taliensis are also seen on the market. Usually, yabao from C. assamica are white in color, but this has purple tips due to natural mutations over years. Tea Sage LuYu said “For tea, purple is the supreme”. Purple teas are rarer, and some people believe it has additional health benefits. After the buds are picked, they are processed using the white tea processing technique. In terms of the taste, it’s very delicate yet packed with flavors. The liquor color is almost like clear water, with a sweet and refreshing aftertaste that lingers for a while.
