Hubei Teas

This month we selected 4 famous teas from Hubei province. Located in central China where Yangtze River passes through, Hubei is surrounded by mountains and lakes. It produces many great teas historically and is the hometown of Lu Yu (733–804 CE), the sage of tea and author of the first known monograph on tea in the world, Cha Jing "The Classic of Tea”. Enshi Yulu is a unique Chinese green tea, because its fixation step is done through steaming rather than pan-frying that is applied for most Chinese green teas. Yi Hong, along with Dian Hong and Qi Hong, was China's three major black teas for export since the mid 19th century. Qing Zhuan and Mi Zhuan are both compressed into block form, where Qing Zhuan is a dark tea and Mi Zhuan a black tea. Qing Zhuan has a history of a few hundred years and is beloved by Mongolians, who often boil this tea and mix with milk and other ingredients. Hope you can join our weekly events to virtually taste and discuss the same teas, and be sure to share our tea club with your friends or on social media #myteapal #myteapalclub.
