July 2025

Southern Fujian Oolong

Since spring, we’ve been eagerly waiting the arrival of freshly crafted oolong teas. We’re excited to finally share with you a long-anticipated batch from Anxi and Zhangping in southern Fujian. Our July tea club box features two distinct Tie Guan Yin (Iron Goddess of Mercy) from Anxi — a region renowned for producing some of China’s most iconic oolongs. One is a fragrant “Zheng Wei” style, lightly oxidized to highlight its elegant orchid aroma. The other is a traditionally roasted version, charcoal-fired multiple times to develop a deeper, more grounded character, suitable for aging. If you still have teas from our December 2024 club, this is a great chance to compare the two styles side by side—each with its own harvest, grade, and roast profile. We’re also revisiting Zhang Ping Shui Xian, a uniquely compressed oolong from Zhangping. The 2024 autumn version is gently charcoal-roasted and mellow, while the 2025 spring version is freshly made with a long-lasting orchid fragrance. The latter has even met the standard for tea-processing competitions. Both are different from the 2024 spring one we featured last December, offering you a broader view into seasonal and stylistic variations of this rare tea.
