Description
The Da Ye Oolong tea, originating from Changqing in Anxi County, is a distinguished member of the Oolong tea family. Noteworthy for its large, flat leaves displaying a deep green hue, this tea embodies a unique aromatic profile and exquisite taste. This product, according to its processing technique, is classified as a Qing Xiang (fragrant) type of Oolong tea. The infusion yields an enduring floral fragrance, coupled with a refreshing and lingering sweetness. In the 1990s when Tie Guan Yin gained popularity and prices soared, many Da Ye Oolong tea trees fell victim to the trend, replaced by the sought-after Tie Guan Yin. Perhaps due to local soil conditions, the new Tie Guan Yin cultivars struggled to thrive, prompting locals to explore new tea gardens elsewhere for Tie Guan Yin cultivation. Consequently, numerous Da Ye Oolong tea plantations were abandoned. Legend has it that in 1731 during the Qing Yongzheng era, Su Long from Changqing in Anxi County transplanted a particular tea sapling to Jianning Prefecture (present-day Nanping City). With high yields and superior quality, local tea farmers hailed it as an excellent variety. Su Long passed away a few years later, and the locals named the tea variety "Wulong" in honor of Su Long. Recognizing its distinct characteristics, they later added the words “Da Ye” (Big Leaf) to the name, setting it apart from other Oolong varieties.
