Description
Qi Lan (奇兰) varietal is originally from Zhangzhou of southern Fujian province. It was introduced to Wuyi Mountains in the 1990s, and through rounds of selection and evolution, it flourished in Wuyishan’s soil and climate. Literally meaning “Rare Orchid”, Qi Lan possesses a unique aroma resembling that of orchid flowers.
Rock teas made from this varietal usually have low to medium level of oxidation, and the processing method involves multiple low-heat, extended baking periods where the floral and fruity taste is preserved and enhanced. When the tea is processed well, its natural orchid fragrance will be brought out fully.
This tea is from Yan Zi Ke Ecological Tea Garden of Wuyishan. During the fine-processing stage, it is baked with charcoal to the medium level.

Brewing second tea from the Rock oolongs. I didn't like it much. I like the tea I brewed yesterday more (Da Hong Pao). It seems little weak to me.

This is a very consistently sweet tea, which is delicious! It's also spiced and fruity. It becomes increasingly mineral over time with occasional almond notes.

For the first of the rock teas this month, I sampled the Qi Lan. To me, it was fruity and floral at the beginning. In later steeps it grew more chalky until it became sweet and cresmy again.

A nice Qi Lan. Fruity and floral at the beginning, swerves toward chalky, and then buttery.

I like this one, but it just seemed "weak" throughout. Will try a different water recipe next time to see if I can raise the rating.

Extremely good qi lan! :)
Mild-sweet orchid taste, clear gold liquor. Slight minerality and aroma from the roast.
Long lingering mellow aftertaste.
